Exciting news! #EmoryNursing Assistant Professor Emily Mroz, PhD, has been awarded a K22 Career Development Award from the National Institute on Aging for her research, “Preparedness for Caregiving in Experienced Caregivers of Persons Living with Dementia.”
The long-term goal of Dr. Mroz’s work is to leverage insights to create narrative-based interventions that enhance caregivers’ preparedness and improve psychological health outcomes.
Congratulations to Dr. Mroz on this award, which is the first of its kind to be received within the School of Nursing!

Every year, the Frost Lab looks forward to attending the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) Annual Scientific Meeting to share their results, learn about the latest in aging science, and connect with colleagues to develop new projects. This year, Dr. Mroz led a symposium on empathy and caregiving, bringing together leading scientists from five universities around the country. Frost Lab students Annie Pei, Gelila Amebllu, and Emily Tso also presented results from a brand-new study looking at how people with cognitive impairment tell important stories from their lives, and how Virtual Reality technology can facilitate storytelling.

Dr. Mroz joined Sue Ryan and Nancy Treaster on their podcast “The Caregiver’s Journey”, a nonprofit empowering dementia caregivers to navigate their journeys, to talk about tips for experienced caregivers. They discuss the importance of assessing your readiness, finding support, and that preparedness comes from resources and emotional strength, not just your previous experiences. It encourages caregivers to approach their stories with grace and make space for growth

We are always looking for people to volunteer to participate in our paid research studies. Right now, we are looking for people who are helping to take care of a family member or friend living with dementia. If you are interested in participating, please click below. Spread the word to help us reach as many caregivers as possible!
